Area: Park - 395 acres
Location: 3 miles west of Pascagoula, south of US 90 at Gautier. Shepard has 395 acres abounding with trees and wild flowers, bike and nature trails, 28 developed campsites, 1 bathhouse, tent camping and picnicking and 18 hole disc golf course.

Shepard State Park is nestled in the heart of Singing River (Pascagoula River) country, where legend has it that members of the Pascagoula Indian nation linked hands and walked into the Pascagoula River rather than be taken captive by hostile Indian tribes. The mournful death chant they sang as they walked earned the Pascagoula River the nickname "Singing River". Tales of the heroic exploits of French and Spanish settlers and romantic legends of the Pascagoula and Biloxi Indians are standard fare in the scenic coastal area surrounding Shepard State Park.

Alerts and Important Information

Shepard Park has opened 3 different areas for primitive camping available on a first-come, first -serve basis. Some have picnic tables and grills. Organized groups such as scouts and churches need to make reservations with the Park office at 228-497-2244. Tent camping is allowed in our Developed Campsites with electricity and water hook-ups at the regular camping fee. Call the park for any questions.

In the event of cancellation, penalties may apply. Mississippi State Parks now utilizes a voucher system for any balance due to customers. You will not receive a refund. 3 miles west of Pascagoula, south of US 90 at Gautier, exit 61 off of Interstate 10. Most GPS and Map Quest searches will not lead you to the park the shortest way. Feel free to call the park office for directions.
